“Song of the Hands”
The Guitar Ensemble of the Rheinland-Pfalz Regional Music Grammar School in Montabaur

The name cantomano means “Song of the Hands”
and symbolises fulfilled and living music-making.
The very varied repertoire of this ensemble, founded in September 1997 by Volker Höh, extends from music of the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods through European and South American folklore to popular music styles and further to contemporary music written for, dedicated to and first performed by cantomano.
Octave Guitar, Quint, Terz, Prim, Quint Bass and Double Bass Guitars, Guitarrón and Folk Guitar, with Banjo, Ukulele, Timple, Charango and the Folk Octave Guitar which was especially developed for cantomano can be heard here. Added to these are many different percussion instruments, voice, and soloists from within the ensemble.
cantomano won first prizes
at the 6th, 7th ,8th, 9th and 10th German Orchestra Competition
2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021.
and won the Regional Orchestra Competition in Rheinland-Pfalz in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019. Besides further successes at national and international competitions the ensemble won a “Special Prize for Outstanding Performance of a Contemporary Work” (DOW 2000) and the “Special Prize for the best Interpretation of the Set Piece” at the 1st International Guitar-Orchestra-Competition in Rheine, 2003.
Concert-Tours were undertaken, amongst others, for the Goethe Institute to Russia, Italy, Greece, Bolivia, Uruguay and Argentina.
